ExactFile builds small, precise file utilities that do exactly one thing well: hit your exact target. Most "compressors" give you a vague quality slider — we give you "100KB means 100KB."

Government portals, visa applications, exam forms, and HR systems routinely reject files that are even slightly over a size cap. Our tools search for the best possible quality that fits your exact limit, so you don't get bounced by a form.

Privacy-first by design

How we research and verify guides

Every guide on the ExactFile guides section follows the same editorial process:

• We test the tool first. A guide is only written after the tool it describes has been run end-to-end with real files — a photo from a modern phone, a multi-page PDF, a scanned form. Screenshots and steps in the guide reflect what actually happens, not what a vendor claims.
• Official specifications come from official sources. Passport, visa, and ID photo dimensions are checked against the issuing authority's published requirements (for example, the U.S. State Department's 2×2 inch rule, HM Passport Office's 35×45 mm standard, and the consular photo requirements published on travel.state.gov). When a portal states an exact kilobyte window — like India's PAN portal accepting photographs of 20–50 KB — we test against that window, not a rumour from a forum.
• We re-verify on a schedule. Specifications change. Photo and size requirements in our guides carry a visible fact-check date, and we re-check the tables against the source when portal rules are known to change (typically yearly application cycles).
• We write for non-technical readers. Every guide assumes you have a phone, a file, and a deadline — not image-editing software or a background in print production.
• Corrections are welcome and credited. If you spot an error, email us with the official source; verified fixes are published quickly with an update note on the guide.

What we are and are not

ExactFile is an independent utility site. We are not affiliated with any government agency, portal, or embassy; our tools simply prepare files to the specifications those bodies publish. Where a requirement is ambiguous, the guide says so and links you to the authoritative source rather than guessing.

Who runs ExactFile

The site is built and maintained by a small team of developers and writers who got tired of upload forms rejecting perfectly good photos. We maintain the tools, the guides, and the specification tables ourselves — there is no outsourced content farm behind the guides section, and every page on this site was written for this site.
